I have successfully returned from University College, Oxford. Photos will be posted soon. I find much that happens here to agree with me. People are quiet and polite, the drinking in relaxed, social, and almost never carried to an extreme, as is so often the case in the states. I will miss pubs when I return to the states, especially the Dark Horse and the Huntsmen, both establishments I frequent regularly and know the bar staff by name. There is something oddly attractive about sitting outside the Huntsmen and having a pint while I finish reading something for a class, or perusing the paper at lunch time.
I had heard horror stories about the food as well, most of which are false. English food, save breakfast seems to me to be more European then English. I essentially live off of baguettes and fish n' chips here, and I have no problem with that at all. The bacon here is definitely worth a try if you are ever able. It is thicker then what is served in the states and they don't cook it as aggressively as they do back home.
I met a girl in the Fellow's Gardens, the porter laughed.
For those of you reading this who are either in England, or love beer, try St. Austel's Tribute, its a Cornish beer that is perfect after punting on the Thames.
Cheers,
